§ 2. Term of office.

  • (a)

    The first commissioner of Union County provided for by this act shall be elected at the general election of 1984 and shall take office on the first day of January, 1985, for a term of four years and until a successor is elected and qualified. Thereafter, successors shall be elected at the general election immediately preceding the expiration of the term of office and shall take office on the first day of January immediately following the election for a term of four years and until a successor is elected and qualified.

    (b)

    The commissioner shall be elected by a majority of the qualified voters of Union County voting on a county-wide basis. The commissioner shall be nominated and elected in accordance with the provisions of O.C.G.A. § 21-2-1 et seq., known as the "Georgia Election Code."
